ADEPR Church Bishop Jean Sibomana under custody

Bishop jean Sibomana the legal representative Association des Eglises Pantecote of ADEPR –Rwanda is under Police over allegations of embezzling Church funds.

He was detained at Kimihurura Police on Saturday July 27th.

National Police Spokesperson ACP Theos Badege confirmed the news saying that Bishop Jean Sibomana is arrested over accusations similar to those committed by his co-accused  top leaders of ADEPR church who are under Police custody on similar accusations.

“Intermediate judge ruled Sibomana must stay under custody while waiting trail pending investigations into charges brought against him,” He added

Bishop Simbomana’s arrest cames barely less than a month after several other church  leaders were detained over similar allegations.

He joined Bishop Rwagasana a deputy spokesperson of the ADEPR, and the other six co-accused of similar charges. Rwagasana is the former head of Private Sector Federation in Eastern Province and a businessman before joining a full time job at ADEPR leadership, his arrest came barely a day after three other church leaders were detained over similar allegations.

The other co-accused are; Sindayigaya Theophile, senior spokesperson in charge of economy, Gasana Valens, Executive Treasurer, Christine Mutuyemariya,  the chief finance officer, Pastor Salton Niyitanga, the Special Secretary in office of Rwagasana, and Pastor Leonard Sebagabo, Secretary General of ADEPR.

According to prosecutors all the co-accused tripped in their faith and broke the law to make money -Prosecution told court that the accused are fond of stealing funds that Christians raise for development activities.

All together they are accused of siphoning church funds mounting to over Rwf three billions raised initially through a fundraising and meant to pay the church loan acquired from Rwanda Development Bankd to finance church programs.
