ADF rebels loot and burn villages in Beni

Rebel forces believed to be of Uganda Allied for Democratic Forces (ADF) has burned more than five civilian homes and looted nine shops in a weekend night attack in the town of Mavivi, north of Beni, 20 km.

The local civil society says a child under the age of 10 was also shot dead during fighting between the ADF and the FARDC. Three motorcycles were also set on fire by the rebels.

” At around 4 pm local time that the farmers of Ndoyi, a village located three kilometers northeast of Ngite, had abandoned their farming activities and had alerted the authorities to the presence of ADF in this area.

“Then around 7 pm, we heard gunshots crackling in our locality and it was an ambush first against a FARDC jeep. A few minutes later, we began to hear the blows of cannons coming from everywhere, after these are the blue helmets that came to reinforce the military. It was around 2 am that the weapons stopped. “says Djamali Moussa, president of the Civil Society of Mavivi.

Djamali Moussa says calm has since returned in the area. He adds that the nine-year-old who was shot and wounded is receiving treatment at Oicha General Hospital.
