Belgium embassy issues travel warning to Rwanda

Kigali, Rwanda-As long as you follow the usual precautions, it is generally possible to travel to Rwanda safely. Vigilance is recommended. The statement reads in part.

“The North West (North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo) and South West (South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi) borders of Rwanda are regularly the scene of clashes…”

Armed groups from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and more recently from Burundi (around the Nyungwe Forest), may infiltrate into Rwandan territory.

That is why a Rwandan military device is permanently installed at the border. It is therefore advisable to remain cautious in these border areas where the situation can rapidly deteriorate.”

According to the embassy statement, Travelers wishing to travel to Burundi should take into account that currently all non-essential trips to this country are not recommended.
