KIGALI-RWANDA-Rwanda High Court rules the yet registered party leader (FDU-Inkingi) Victoire Ingabire to eight years behind bars on charges of threatening state security and belittling 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.
The state prosecution had requested the court to rule Ingabire, to life sentence.
Ingabire wasn’t in the court room during the verdict, saying the case was political. However, her supporters applauded the sentence since they expected life sentence.
The court motivated 8years term saying the ruling considered Ingabire’s hand written letter to the President asking leniency.
Ingabire was arrested 2010, and her chances to stand for the President faded in air. On her arrival from Netherlands, Ingabire challenged the existence of Tutsi Memorial sites saying Hutu members were not remembered.
