DR Congo: Presidential election set on November 28

Democratic Republic of Congo, Presidential and parliamentary elections will be held on November 28, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Pastor Daniel Ngoy Mulunda said during the weekend in Kinshasa.
“Registration of candidates for president and national Members of Parliament will begin on August 4, thus, before the ninety days required by article 73 of the Constitution.” Said Pastor Mulunda
Pastor Daniel Ngoy Mulunda warned political parties and platforms against “any kind of violence or intimidation during the polls. All acts of violence resulting from the actions of political actors will lead the INEC to purely and simply cancel the polls in the area
A preliminary list of candidates will be published on September 7, thus, precisely ninety days before the election of the president and members of the National Assembly, as required by article 73 of the Constitution.
The election of the president and members of the National Assembly will take place at the same day on November 28, Mulunda announced during the press conference.
Preliminary results of the elections will be published on December 6, the same day the term of the incumbent president ends.
In late December, the newly-elected president will be sworn in.
According to the Independent electoral commission boss, the Provincial elections will take place on March 25, 2012.
However, Senators will be elected on July 4, 2012.
And, on July 21, 2012 the election of provincial governors and vice-governors will be held.” May God help us accomplish this timetable in peace and national unity.” Past Mulunda concluded.
