DR Congo: Seven gold miners killed

Buniya, DRC-Seven gold miners died and four others were seriously injured Wednesday, August 11, in a site-Nizi gold center, thirty kilometers north of Bunia in Djugu in the Eastern Province, said a cultural leader of the area.

He explained that 30 miners were working under a light rain in the gold mine Linga, one kilometer from Nizi-center in the group Taratibu in community Mambisa.

The miners sought refuge in a hut near the site to protect against the rain when they were struck by lightning.

The injured were transported to the hospital reference Nizi, the source added.

According to the chief medical officer of health zone Nizi, victims have burns on their bodies and their health improves.

This is the third time that people are struck by lightning since the beginning of this year in Ituri.
