DRC: A new rebel group born in Rutchuru

Goma-A new armed group called “Popular Democratic Force” (FPD), was born last week in the group Binza in Rutshuru, in North Kivu Province, Great Lakes Voice reports

The military sources say that Col. Shetani Muhima, former Mai-Mai, said on Tuesday 18 September that his movement wants to fight the March 23 Movement (M23) “to stop the plan of balkanization of the Democratic Republic of Congo in progress”.

Saturday, September 15, the FPD has launched an attack in some areas formerly controlled by the militia of the Front for Democracy and Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR).

According to the military commander of the movement Shetani Muhima, attacks and occupation of localities Nyakakoma, Ishasha, Nyamilima and Kisharo was captured. The areas were formerly under the control of the FDLR militia.

Shetani Muhima said that the goal of the movement is to fight to end the balkanization process in the DRC. This movement is concerned that people are abandoned in the hands of M23 that is willing to face.

These statements are of concern to the local population. Contacted some people Nyamilima fear renewed fighting does not cause new waves of population movements.
