DRC and Uganda agree to ease cross border trade

The DRC and Uganda have agreed to simplify cross-border trade and customs cooperation. The Congolese Minister of Foreign Trade and his Ugandan counterpart for trade and industry signed a Memorandum of Understanding Monday (April 9th) in Uganda.

The two ministers agreed to establish a joint committee at each border crossing. This Committee is made up of experts from all institutions as well as services operating at the borders.

The Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two parties provides for the management and exchange of information and statistics, as well as cooperation between operators in the private sectors of two states.

The two ministers agreed on collaboration in SME development and harmonization of views on the implementation of the Great Lakes Trade Facilitation Project to improve the flow of cross-border trade.
