DRC Brigadier gets one-year jail term for entering Uganda illegally

Brigadier Robert Rutinywa, whom the Uganda security horded that he was a Rwandan, now court in Kabale has affirmed that the senor officer, is truly a Congolese national serving in the regular army FARDC.

Rutinywa pleaded guilty to the charges but denied claims that he was Rwandan and submitted documents in court proving that he is a Congolese who speaks Rwandese.

Brig. Rutinywa, was given an option of paying 1 million shillings or serves his jail term for illegal entry into Uganda.

Court preside over by Michael Otto- the Kabale chief magistrate- heard Tuesday that Brigadier Rutinywa entered Uganda illegally and was intercepted by security officials on August 23 on his way from Kampala to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Court ordered that once he pays the 1 million shillings fine, he should immediately be deported to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
