DRC crisis: Defence ministers meet to prepare for Saturday ICGLR summit

Kampala-Uganda-The Defence Ministers of the Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) have met on Saturday, October 7 at Kampala, Uganda.

The defence meeting was to analyze the report of the evaluation team composed of military experts of their country, on the destructive capacity of the main rebel groups in North and South Kivu, in the DRC, the M23.

The meeting of Defence Ministers of the Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) is a prelude to the fourth Extraordinary Summit of Heads of States of the ICGLR scheduled for Saturday evening Munyoyo still in Uganda.

The military assessment team, composed of 32 military officers from the 11 member countries of the ICGLR, descended on the field Sept. 22 in Goma.

Their mission was to assess and report on the destructive capacity of the main rebel groups in North and South Kivu, in the DRC, the M23.

The report of the experts, once amended, will be presented by the Defence Ministers to the Heads of State and Government of the ICGLR tonight Munyoyo still in Uganda.

Provisions should guide the mission of the neutral international force, to be incorporated in the next two months.

Delegates Monusco attended this meeting, which is held the second meeting before the fourth Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State of the ICGLR.

Friday, it is the military experts who gathered in Kampala to finalize their report.
