Military officers accused of facilitating mining fraud

Five killed in fighting between local armed groups earlier this week The National Commission for Combating Mining Fraud (CNLFM) in North Kivu accuses “senior army officers” of abusing their positions to release soldiers and civilians detained for smuggling minerals to North Kivu.

The representative of this structure in North Kivu, Daniel Ngoie Mbayo claims to be currently under pressure from some senior army officers to release an officer detained for about three months for trying to pass 600 Kg of coltan to the Rwanda.

He denounces a practice of covering mining fraud in North Kivu which impoverishes the province for the benefit of neighboring countries.
