US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley on Tuesday (January 9th) in New York condemned the violence that punctuated the peaceful march of Catholic laity held on December 31st.

In her statement made in New York, she also reiterated her request to President Joseph Kabila not to run for the next presidential election on December 23, 2018.

“Following reports of such brutality and cruelty against innocent civilians and children in the holiest of places is truly horrifying,” she said.

She added that President Joseph Kabila must make his security forces “responsible, in order to respect the human rights of his compatriots and respect his commitment in accordance with the constitution of the DRC.”
