Kigali, Rwanda-National Police has appointed Tony Kuramba to head Criminal investigation Department as a commissioner in acting capacity replacing ACP Theos Badege, Great Lakes Voice has independently learned.

Also Interpol department has acquired a new director, Peter Karake who has been at Nairobi Interpol Sub Regional Bureau, replacing Nepo Mbonyumuvunyi.

Both Theos Badege and Nepo Mbonyumuvunyi will be travelling by next week to attend a one year course in United Kingdom. The duo senior officers in Rwanda Police will be taking Senior Command and Staff course in UK.

In 2002, Tony Kuramba was Police publicist, letter transferred to head CID, then shifted to head Interpol to the section of cross boarder crimes. Now he has been brought back to head CID at acting position, which many senior officers in the force say he might take over the job permanently.

A new Director of International Police-Rwanda Office Peter Karake will be having huge task of tracking international fugitives. However, his critics in Rwanda Police doubt his competence since he has no firm background of investigations. Also they allege he has been away so long and he had turned to be a business man.

Peter Karake is the owner of Diamond Forex bureaus in Kigali. He has been away for eight years.

It’s not clear yet who would replace Karake at Interpol sub regional bureau, a position which is highly sought after since senior police officers regard it as lucrative.
