Rwanda journalist’s network for the human rights launched

Muhanga-Today, 19-10-2011 Rwanda journalist’s for human rights network launched officially its operations in Muhanga district, the Southern province.

Speaking at the occasion, Fidele Gakire, the association’s president said that the network’s major role is to sensitize programs of the citizens done by journalists to involve in different activities like umuganda program, fight against gender based violence, indicating human rights violations and achievements in respect of human rights in the country.

“We are determined to increase reporting on human rights violations and educating the public on their fundamental rights,” said Gakire.

The network activities will be implemented in collaboration with Rwanda Media High Council (MHC) and is also licensed as a non-governmental organization working together with the ministry of local government in all districts.

According to Gakire, the network will also help journalists in capacity building and professional skills in reporting about human rights violations and proper access to information in related fields.

The network is also setting up a project; zero tolerance in human rights violation in Rwanda.

Recommending on the initiative, Muhanga district Mayor Yvonne Mutakwasuku guest of honor at the event, noted that her district will coordinate with the network for the public interest.

“This will be a good and proper channel for the local governments to coordinate and educate the people through media,” said Mutakwasuku.

This network aims to improve platforms through which the citizens can express any injustices they face without waiting for top government leaders to intervene.
