Kigali-The Minister of Culture and Sports, Joseph Habineza, popularly known as ‘Joe’, has resigned his position which he has been holding for nearly six years, following the mass circulation of pictures on the internet, depicting indiscretion on his part.

He has been one of the young and dynamic ministers; he joined government in 2005 as the minister of youth, culture and sports.

“I have resigned due to my conscious telling me that what I did was not right for the person as a minister,” Habineza told the media today.

Early this week pictures widely circulated on the internet showing the minister in what seemed to be a house party in dancing scenes with several women but not in pornographic scenes.

“These pictures are of 2008 when we were at the birthday party in the home of some friend, but am wondering why these photos are circulating now,” he said. But his critics say that his claims can’t be true, and now he’s resigning.

According to Prime Minister’s office the sports minister’s resignation was received and accepted by the President, as it was based on article 125 of the Constitution.

“I have resigned for personal reasons but when you see people publishing pictures and all that, it is not good for your image as a Minister,” Mr. Habineza said adding that he was not in the hotel when the pictures were taken.

I have no AIDS

When questioned by  journalists on allegations that ‘he has AIDS and has been infecting teenagers’ Mr. Habineza was quick to deny the allegations, saying that “I have no AIDS, every 03rd of October I go to Kanimba’s private hospital for the check-up, I give the permission on my file to go and ask.”

In 2008, Mr. Habineza was in the media on allegations of sexual scandal in his office.
