Donald Trump has said the US is withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal.

The US president has consistently threatened to leave the 2015 deal because it does not address Tehran’s ballistic missile programme or its wars in Syria and Yemen.

Trump said that he deal “should have never been made. It didn’t bring peace, and it never will.”

Iranian state TV says Trump decision is illegal, illegitimate and undermines international agreements

“We appreciate, me and the people of Israel, Trump’s determination to halt the nuclear deal. The international community who says wants peace and security, has to work on three things”

The Iranian regime is the leading state sponsor of terror. It exports dangerous missiles fuels conflicts across the Middle East, and supports terrorists’ proxies such as Hezbollah, Hamas, the Taliban and al-Qaida. They have murdered hundreds of American service members and kidnapped and tortured American citizens.

They have plundered the wealth of their own people. No action taken by the regime has been more dangerous than their pursuit of nuclear weapons.

In theory, the so called Iran deal, was supposed to project the US and our allies from the lunacy of an Iranian nuclear bomb. In fact, the deal allowed Iran to continue enriching uranium and over time, reach the brink of a nuclear breakout.

The deal lifted crippling economic sanctions on Iran, in exchange for very weak limits on the regime’s nuclear activities.

A constructive deal could easily have been struck at the time, but it wasn’t. At the heart of the deal was fiction.

Last week Israel published intelligent documents long concealed by Iran, conclusively showing Iran’s history of pursuing nuclear weapons.

This was a deal that never, ever should have been made. It didn’t bring peace, and it never will.

After the sanctions were lifted, the dictatorship used the new funds to build missiles and cause havoc in the Middle East and beyond.

The race’s sunset provisions are totally unacceptable. If I allowed it to stay, there would soon be a nuclear arms deal in the Middle East.

Finally, the deal does nothing to constrain Iran’s destabilizing activities, including its support for terrorism. Iran’s bloody ambitions have grown only more brazen.

In October, I announced that that the agreement must be renegotiated, and that if the deal cannot be fixed, the United States will no longer be committed to it.

After these consultations with our allies, it is clear to me that we cannot prevent an Iranian nuclear bomb under the current agreement. The Iran deal is defective at its core.

In just a short period of time, the world’s leading sponsor of terror, will be on the cusp of acquiring the world’s most dangerous weapon.

Therefore, I’m announcing today that the United States will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal.

We will be instituting the highest level of economic sanctions. America will not be held hostage to nuclear blackmail.

(Trump said he will sign an executive order reinstating the sanctions.)

Secretary Pompeo is on his way to North Korea to prepare my meeting with Kim Jung Un.

As we exit the Iran deal, we will be working with our allies to find a real, comprehensive and lasting solution to the Iranian nuclear threat. This will include efforts to eliminate the threat of Iran’s ballistic missile program, to stop its terrorist activities worldwide, and to block it across the Middle East. In the meantime, crippling sanctions will go into effect.

European leaders have warned such an outcome would scupper the deal and undo years of work, with France’s President Emmanuel Macron speaking with Mr Trump via phone during the morning.
