Uganda tax body accused of fraud

Kampala, Uganda-City business operators are accusing the tax body, Uganda revenue authority (URA) of fraud and being too corrupt to protect consumers and business alike.

Speaking to media, Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) spokesperson Issa Sekitto says URA is to be blamed for fake and expired goods that continue to flood the market in Uganda.

According to Sekitto, independent investigations carried out by the association, reveals that the tax authority is Okaying goods that are not fit for the market.

“Since 2010, over one thousand traders have lost 183.9 billion as a result of fake and expired goods” Sekitto said.

The traders now want government to investigate the operations of URA and act accordingly as soon as possible.
