Kigali and Moscow sign a framework agreement

Visiting Moscow last week, Rwandan Minister of Infrastructure Claver Gatete signed with the Director General of the Russian Federal Agency for Atomic Energy ROSATOM, Alexey Likhachev, and the Intergovernmental Agreement in the Field of Peaceful Use atomic energy.

According to a press release issued on the occasion, this act “will serve as a starting point for an active dialogue between the two countries in the nuclear field and will allow starting the implementation of specific cooperation projects”.

The intergovernmental framework agreement provides a legal framework for various projects, including the development of nuclear science and technology center construction projects and nuclear power plants, construction improvement of Rwanda’s nuclear infrastructure according to international standards, regulation in the field of radiation protection and nuclear safety, supervision of the protection of nuclear materials, radiation sources, storage of nuclear materials and radioactive agents, as well as inventory and control systems for nuclear materials, radioactive substances and radioactive waste, basic and applied research in the field of the peaceful use of atomic energy, production of radionuclide’s and radiative technologies for industry, agriculture and medicine; application of radiative technologies, nuclear medicine, staff education and training for the nuclear industry.

Recall that it is on June, in Moscow, that the State Corporation of Russian nuclear energy ROSATOM and the Rwandan Ministry of Infrastructure signed the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the field of peaceful use atomic energy.
