Breaking: Umusingi newspaper editor detained

Kigali, Rwanda-Rwanda Police has arrested and detained Umusingi newspaper editor Stanley Gatera on allegations of corruption.

Gatera has been arrested after the vigil of commemorating the killing of journalists in 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Earlier today, Gatera told Great Lakes Voice that he was concerned after the last week airing of the Aljazeera interview (People and Power) featuring President Kagame and journalist Gatera.

According to him, President’s office complained to the producer of the program that Gatera was not a journalist.

Fred Muvunyi, chairman of Rwanda Commission confirmed to this new website of the arrest.

In 2012 Gatera was arrested and charged of divisionism, served one year and released 2013.

Police spokesman Damas Gatare was not available for the comment.
