DRC: Congolese Prime minister resigns

Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Muzito, filed on Tuesday March 6 in the morning, his resignation to President Joseph Kabila. So that leads to his resignation of his entire government.

The spokesman of the outgoing government, Lambert Mende, who confirmed the resignation of Muzito indicating that the move, is constitutional and that all current ministers, national deputies elected or not, are also reported resigned.

“The Government is at the end of term. There is a new National Assembly that has just been established. It is important that the Government releases the outgoing President of the Republic to allow it to create the new Government. ”

He now faces, he said, the problem of continuity of the state, “which starts from the resignation of Prime Minister (…) This continuity must be organized by the President of the Republic.”

Lambert Mende, also said that the problem of incompatibility between the office of minister and the parliamentary mandate was already solved. Indeed, the deadline for ensuring national deputies of incompatible duties that expires Tuesday, March 6.

Under sections 77 and 78 of the current electoral law, also the constitutional provision for members of government, elected in the last Parliament, state representatives and members of the Office of the President of the Republic.

In this regard, Lambert Mende said in the morning on that several central government ministers were notified on Monday, the temporary office of the National Assembly of their option to leave the government for their parliamentary mandate:

It was planned however, for the Congolese foreign affairs minister to meet with Rwanda’s Mushikiwabo and of Burundi in Goma to discuss further cooperation.
