Following the claim of Victoire Ingabire to court that she will boycott her trial for suspected terrorism and denying genocide in protest at the treatment of a witness, the prosecution says Ingabire has no rights to boycott the court but has the right to remain silent.
Ingabire’s Lawyers as Iain Edwards and Gashabana said they are also boycotting the hearings. “I’m no longer her lawyer,” said Iain.
Speaking to the Great Lakes Voice, Alain Mukurarinda said, the court would look for other lawyers for Ingabire, but she can’t boycott the court. “We have vivid proofs to pin her. Ingabire is just employing tactics which will not work.” He said
Prosecutors also say they had evidence of her alleged “terrorist” activities, including proof of financial transfers to the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), a Hutu rebel movement based in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.
Former FDLR Colonel, Michel Habimana whom the prosecution accuses of ploting with Ingabire and her defence lawyers to make her record clean says state rigging evidence against her.
“We have conducted a search and found in the Col. Habimana’s cell. We found notes that were given to him to give false testimony to court. The court did not accept his testimony leading to Ingabire’s claim to boy court the court. That’s not going to work.” Mukurarinda said
