Nairobi-It all started last month, when the US ambassador to Kenya announced, without mentioning names, that some Kenyan government officials are not allowed to step on United States soil due to their involvement in drug trafficking.

Working under parliament pressure, Kenyan minister for internal security, Professor George Saitoti has named four out of six Kenyan drug barons, many of them government parliamentarians, along with a business tycoon.

“We are yet to bring everything to light since Kenya anti-corruption Commission (KACC) will have to exchange information with Police to bring every name out,” Mr. Saitoti said.
Ali Hassan Joho (Kisauni), William Kabogo (Juja), Harun Mwau (Kilome) and Gideon Mbuvi alias Mike Sonko (Makadara) and Mombasa tycoon Ali Punjani are being investigated for alleged drug trafficking.
“I have to go through the list very well and do some cross-checking, Mr Speaker I will not shy from saying the truth,” Saitoti added.
MPs had demanded to know who among them was being investigated over allegations of being drug barons.
The names are in a US embassy dossier which ambassador Michael Ranneberger gave to the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (Kacc) last month.
Kenyan Premier, Laila Odinga said he had the list from US embassy but he did not want “to mention their names, waiting for the competent body to do it.”
