NEWYORK-United Kingdom envoy to United Nations has called all neighbouring countries to DR Congo to help government cub armed forces that cause havoc to the local people in Eastern DRC.

Speaking to the UN Security Council, Lyall Grant pointed out that government forces effort to fight M23 has caused security vacuum that the Rwandan armed group FDLR based in Eastern DRC has taken advantage to menacing civilians and raping women.

“Women are still raped by armed groups like FDLR taking chance of security vacuum caused by government forces fighting M23. Therefore, neighbouring   countries should help DRC deal with armed forces.” He said

According to Grant, UK fully supports DRC effort in fighting armed groups like M23 and arresting the perpetrators to face justice.

France ambassador to UN JEAN-MARC de LA SABLIERE said that his country supports that Gen. Ntaganda be arrested quickly and be transferred to International Criminal Court to be prosecuted.

The comments were made today in UN Security Council extra-ordinary meeting in New York chaired by China. The meeting is discussing on 9th report on protection of civilians in armed conflict.

However, Rwanda’s foreign affairs and regional cooperation minister, Louise Mushikiwabo, has said that the behavior of DRC government calling neighbours for advice and again send reports that accuse Rwanda to UN “doesn’t make any sense”

“Last week, I was in Kinshasa, so when I was in air coming back, DRC sent a letter to UN Security Council to condemn Rwanda. How does one call a neighbor to help solve issues and them send accusations everywhere?” Mushikiwabo asked in dismal

DRC letter says Rwanda forces are in Virunga Park aiding M23 and therefore, Rwanda should be condemned. “Mushikiwabo said that the cooperation with DRC will continue to seek regional peace.

“What are Rwanda’s interests in causing instability in DRC? Our economy is among the first growing, our country is stable, we don’t need conflict” Mushikiwabo added
