Regional artists’ turn-up for star Matata tribute Concert

Bujumbura-On the eve of the repatriation of the body of the singer Jean-Christophe Matata from South Africa to Burundi for burial, a mega-concert was held Monday night in Bujumbura.

The purpose of this concert which saw the participation of local artists, the Diaspora and others from region – mainly from Rwanda, was to pay tribute to this illustrious singer and continue raising funds for the preparation of his burial.

Several singers Burundi, the most famous John Nkwele Chris, Aron Ntunga Steven Sogo Kendo, Macarena and her son, Ivan, etc., had answered this. It should be noted, however, the absence of Kidumu evolving in Nairobi. But He and his brother Saddy contributed to the song “Nagasaga Matata” composed by John Chris just after the announcement of the artist’s death in Burundi.

Among the artists from elsewhere to this appointment, it was noted especially Masamba, Jean-Paul Samputu and President of the Association of Musicians. Guests of honor as well the family of the deceased artist as his two children (daughter and son Congoman Calista and her two sisters Diane and Marie Angel who went on stage to greet the public.

Matata’s body is expected Wednesday, January 12. A Mass is scheduled the same day in his memory. His body will be exposed to the public before his funeral on Thursday, said the organizing committee led by Leonce Ngabo of the Association of Musicians in Burundi.

According to most speakers who have succeeded on stage, JC Matata will always be known for his love of music, the public and especially younger artists.

The coordination committee indicates that it is doing everything for a funeral ceremonial. The cost is expected to reach 25 million francs (slightly less than 25 thousand U.S. dollars).

JC Matata died Monday, Jan. 3 of lung infection in South Africa where he was touring with some musical singers Burundi.
