Kigali, Rwanda- first time in History, Rwanda state Television (RTV) under Office of Rwanda broadcasting (ORENFOR) has announced plans to establish other channels broadcasting content from the antennas of the state TV.
The information was revealed by the Finance Minister John Rwangombwa, who added that the state TV may offer the channels to the private investors to hire. the comments brought some to surprise as the government claimed the delay was due to digital immigration process.
“We are establishing the sophisticated TV studios at OBK building in Kacyiru and opening other six channels by next year,” Rwangombwa said.
Private investors has tried to acquire the licenses to establish the private TV’s in the country that has got only one TV ever since the colonial error told to wait for the immigration process from analog to digital.
Tele10, Contact Fm Radio, Nation Media group and others are among others who have applied to establish TV stations in the country.

This is very good news for rwandans! The emergence of private radio stations has created new mood among the rwandans, promoted artists and freedom of speech and also changed the way public media reports!

six tv station is just another move forward but what about private stations and access to adverts is rura stepping to incline limits to create room for competition or will not be perceived as a blockade to private investment. Minister must clarify on that.
