Two Police officers, one soldier dead following an attack in North Kivu

Two policemen and one soldier were killed and three others seriously injured on the night of Sunday 8 to Monday, April 9 during an attack of the General Staff of the Congolese National Police (PNC) in Butembo in North Kivu by unidentified armed men.

Mayor Butembo, Theodore Sikuli Uvasaka, deplores the deaths and said that the city recorded four more cases of attack within 24 hours.

Sikuli recalled that on the night of Saturday, April 7, a guard of the union Socozaki sports, a football club of this city, was shot dead by gunmen.

Theodore Sikuli Uvasaka says calm has returned in the city and that the activities have resumed normally.

He appealed but the vigilance of all and “open collaboration” between the police and the public to fight crimes.

During the celebration of the Easter Mass at Mater Ecclesiae Cathedral, Bishop Melchizedek Sikuli has condemned the continuing insecurity in the area of Beni-Butembo. He called on the authorities to exert more effort in securing populations.
