Zambia’s first former First Lady Betty Kaunda has died

Betty Kaunda, wife to Zambia’s 1st president Kenneth Kaunda has died while visiting her daughter in Zimbabwe, Great Lakes Voice has learnt.

Mrs Kaunda, 84, died today while in Zimbabwe but it’s not yet clear of the cause of her death.

Commonly known as MAMA Betty Kaunda could not attend the occasion when she was honoured with the 2010 ‘Virtuous Women’ award by the Generation Impact Foundation (GIF) for her contribution to Zambia’s struggle for independence.

In a speech read on her behalf last two years by Musata, her granddaughter, as she could not attend the function due to ill health at the launch of GIF virtuous woman and award
